A MOMENT WITH YOUR MINISTER…
We live in a fascinating world which is constantly undergoing changes. As I contemplate the technological changes that I have seen during my lifetime, it makes me wonder how anyone could ever be bored with life. When I was a boy I put together a crystal set radio, using components mail-ordered from an ad in a magazine. A wire strung on insulators between the pear tree outside my bedroom window and the chicken house served as the antenna. Now, digital H.D.TV via satellite is available. Technological advances are wonderful in many respects, but change is difficult for some people to handle. Overwhelmed by the enormity of the changes and the rapidity with which they are taking place, some people begin to feel that amidst such vast changes there is nothing solid on which to stand. If you are among those who feel this way, I have good news for you.
1. JEHOVAH, THE ALMIGHTY GOD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, CHANGES NOT! In Malachi 3:6, we find these reassuring words which were penned by God's prophet: "For I, Jehovah, change not; Therefore ye, o sons of Jacob, are not consumed." The fact that God changes not adds great stability to our lives. It makes it possible for us to know that even though the world may crumble about us, God is still on His throne. His promises are sure. If we obey His gospel and remain faithful to Him, He will deliver us from sin and will give us peace through his son, Jesus. (Eph. 2:11-18).
2. JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD, CHANGES NOT! In Heb. 13:8, the inspired writer speaks of the nature of Jesus saying, 'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yea and forever." He is the author and finisher of our faith and a high priest after the order of Melchisedec (Heb. 6:20). As Christians we do not serve a dead Christ, but rather a living resurrected savior. He knows us as a shepherd knows his sheep, and because of his great love he "ever lives to make intercession" for us (Heb. 7:25), as we strive to come unto God by him. (Heb. 5:8-9).
3. THE WORD OF GOD IS ETERNAL AND CHANGES NOT! The apostle Peter affirmed the power and eternal nature of God's word of truth when he wrote these words: "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth...being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever" (1 Pet. 1:22-23). God's eternal word will accomplish His purposes. (Isa. 55:11).
4. THE ABIDING PLACES WHICH CHRIST IS NOW PREPARING FOR US ARE SECURE AND ETERNAL IN HEAVEN! In John 14:1-3, Jesus gave assurance to his disciples regarding his departure. He was going to the Father's house to prepare an abiding place for them. In 2 Cor. 5:1, the eternal nature of that which he has made for us in heaven is set forth: "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."
Praise God! In the midst of rapid change, there are some things that are solid and unchanging. How marvelous to be able to hold to God's unchanging hand.
